CENSORSHIP 9910-12 September 1999 SHOW REPORT
For the weekend of 10-12 September 1999, the focal point of the censorship world was Indianapolis where the C.C.S.G. held its worldwide convention at INDYPEX. CCSG member Tony Brooks did an exceptional job of organising the festivities with the willing support of a very professional show committee. The weekend reached a climax on Saturday evening at the awards banquet where C.C.S.G. member Peter Flynn won the show grand award as well as the first C.C.S.G. "Friendship Award" brought from the UK by Chris Miller (European Secretary) and Graham Mark (Bulletin Editor) who were honoured guests at the show. The very high quality of the exhibits was clearly shown by the level of medals awarded. Two members of the C.C.S.G. were judges at the show. The Civil Censorship Study Group Friendship Award consists of a fine silver platter that will be engraved with Peter Flynn's name and will pass from the winner as the Group convenes at different locales over the years. the winner also received a smaller engraved replica to keep. Of course, this implies additional C.C.S.G. conventions over the years. Based on out initial success, this will happen. We are looking for volunteers to organise the 2000 C.C.S.G. Convention. Besides the exhibits the Civil Censorship Study Group had an active programme at the show, starting with a Friday evening social at the Boggstown Inn and Cabaret. All information about this event is censored to protect the guilty. The C.C.S.G. held a breakfast on Saturday at a local hotel followed by the following lectures. Post WWII Berlin Censorship (T. Brooks) All presentations were excellent and led to animated discussions. The C.C.S.G. had a society table at the show where book sales boomed and we recruited new members. All in all the convention was a smashing success. We are eagerly looking forward to the next one.
