CENSORSHIP 2000

The Civil Censorship Study Group held a

Worldwide Convention at

PITTPEX

4-5 November 2000

at
Pittsburgh Philatelic Exhibition
The Charles Sewall Center
Robert Morris College

REPORT

An enthusiastic group of CCSG members met at Robert Morris College in Pittsburgh for CENSORSHIP 2000, the periodic convention and display of the Civil Censorship Study Group. CCSG member, Regis Hoffman, arranged a great weekend of philately and socializing. Besides the exhibits, there was a two-day program of informal talks and discussions that provided a perfect forum for the exchange of censorship information. And much censorship information was also exchanged over food and drink (in vino veritas, I think the saying goes)!

Tony Brooks, John Grabowski and Bob Zeigler judged the CCSG exhibits, all of which were outstanding and clearly of gold medal quality. After much debate the jury chose Myron Hill's "Australia" as winner of the CCSG grand award. The CCSG grand award, also called "The Friendship Trophy," was presented to CCSG by the European branch. It consists of two parts. There is a circulating large silver plate, upon which the names of the annual winners are engraved. The current winner retains it until the next CCSG convention. The winner also gets a smaller engraved plate to keep.

Emphasizing the international character of the CCSG, three distinguished guests from the UK were at the meeting: Chris Miller, the European CCSG Secretary; Mike White, a well-known UK dealer in censored and military mail; John Little, author of the excellent Africa censorship book (which is sold out, but there is a reprint coming).

In addition to the regular PITTPEX dealers, both Mike White and Bill Sandrik provided many beautiful censorship items to separate members from their money.

By unanimous vote of the CCSG Executive Board, the CCSG accepted a very kind offer from John Grabowski to hold CENSORSHIP 2002 at the Minnesota Stamp Show in July 2002.

The following CCSG members attended the show in Pittsburgh:

Tony Brooks
Jim Felton
Myron Fox
Myron Hill III
Regis Hoffman
Chuck LaBlonde
John Little
Chris Miller
Phil Parker
Sam Pezzillo & Debbie
Bill Sandrik

Looking forward to seeing all of you in Minneapolis in 2002!

Mark your calendars now!
