The Forces Postal History Society presents the following awards:


PRESIDENT'S CUP

This is the major annual award of the society. It is awarded fro a 9 sheet exhibit on any subject matter covered by the aims of the Society (i.e. the postal history of the Armed Forces of all countries, at all times, whether in war or peacetime and shall include postmarks, cachets, postage rates, prisoner of war mail, stamps and stationery, censorship and the organisation of postal services. Related matters such as the effects of war on civil mails, wartime airmail routes and services, psychological warfare leaflets, and courier services are also included)..

Judging is based on a points system, with the winner being the entry with the highest total number of points awarded. Points are awarded by members present and voting on the day as follows:

1st place = 5 points; 2nd place = 3 points; 3rd place = 1 point.

HARRY COPE MEMORIAL AWARD FOR LITERATURE

The Harry Cope Award for Literature is given for original research (preferably on subjects which have received little or no attention in the past) and the content be such as to fall within the scope of Forces Postal History and consists of a medal which the recipient will keep. It is named after a former Hon. Secretary of the Forces Postal History Society, who was a benefactor of the Society.

JOHN DAYNES PLATE

The silver-gilt Plate was presented to the Society by John Daynes to be awarded annually to the winner of the Society's 16-sheet competition.

ALAN BROWN TROPHY

Presented by the family of our late Editor and Auctioneer, Alan Brown, to be awarded annually by, and at the discretion of, the President for what he considers to be the best article or series of articles in the Newsletter during the past year.

AWARD WINNERS

2007/08 Awarded by Peter O'Keeffe to Keith Tranmer for his extensive article on The Sieges of Przemysl 1914-15 which appeared in Journal No 271 (Spring 2007) and which complimented his book "Przemysl 1914-1915" published in 2003.
2006/07 Awarded by Peter O'Keeffe to Nick Colley for his in-depth article commemorating the "90th Anniversary of The Battle of Jutland" which appeared as a Special Edition of the Journal.
2005/06 Awarded by Peter O'Keeffe to John Garner for his two-part article on "The Occasional Memoirs of George Cook, POW in Changi 1942-45" which appeared in the Spring and Summer 2005 editions of the Journal.
2004/05 Awarded by Michael Dobbs to Phil Schreiber of New Jersey for his two-part in depth study on "USS LST 991: A Brief History" which had appeared in the Spring and Summer 2004 Newsletters.
2003/04 Awarded by Michael Dobbs: to Heni Smets: for his in depth study on "Postal Co-operation between Great Britain and Belgium during the Korean War" which had appeared in the Autumn 2003 Newsletter.
2002/03 Not awarded
2001/02 Awarded by Peter L. High: to John Daynes for his contributions, great and small, to the Newsletter during the past year and before. Most readily remembered will be the series of articles written jointly with Alistair Kennedy on the "Forces Postal History on Hong Kong" and more recently his series on "Malta - Wartime Mails". Other notable contributions were on East Timor, the E-Bluey and the Internet - Relayone, Recent Forces Postal History News, 1939 - Royal Christmas Card, as well as raising and responding to queries.
2000/01 Awarded by Peter L. High: to Ernie Leppard for his series of articles on his tank regiment, the Sherwood Rangers Yeomanry, during WW II.
