INTRODUCTION

Established in 1952, the Forces Postal History Society was formed to bring together the many collectors interested in the postal history of the Armed Forces of all countries, (and United Nations), at all times, whether in war or peacetime, including the study of postmarks, cachets, postage rates, prisoner-of-war mail, stamps and stationery, censorship and the organisation of military postal services.

Since its formation the Society has achieved steady growth with over 350 members in many countries. A wide variety of interests is catered for covering all military forces in all theatres of war and in peacetime.

Support amongst members is naturally strongest for the armed forces of the Crown with devotees concentrating on Royal Navy, the RAF, first and second World Wars, military camps etc. Others collect and study on a one country basis but whatever their interests, narrow or widespread, the Society encourages groups of members with similar interests to pool their knowledge and support further study into their chosen field in the hope that a draft manuscript suitable for publication will ultimately emerge. Moreover, members are especially urged to write articles for the Newsletter, to report new items and supply information generally.

OTHER BENEFITS

Meetings are held once a month in London, on the second Saturday of each month (except August). Our meeting venue is the Union Jack Club, Sandell Street, London SE1, (near Waterloo Station), and meetings begin at 2.00 pm. At least one all-day meeting is normally held and additional meetings are usually held in provincial centres.

A quarterly Newsletter is published, packed with articles and details of new discoveries, members' queries etc. Postal auctions are also held quarterly and exchange packets circulate (by post in the UK) and all members may buy and sell using these facilities. Members also have the use of an extensive library (within U.K. and some EU countries) and photocopy service.

The Society year runs from 1st February to 31st January and members joining midyear receive all the Newsletters for that year.

Why not join the premier Forces Postal History Society, a society run by collectors for the benefit of collectors? If you are interested in military postal history then it is in your interest to join THE FORCES POSTAL HISTORY SOCIETY.

SUBSCRIPTIONS

The annual subscription, due on 1st February, is: GB £15 (US $22) for UK, Europe (airmail) and world-wide members choosing to receive mail at surface rates.

For world-wide members wishing to receive mail by air the subscription is GB £18 (US $27).

There is a GB £3 (US $4) discount for members renewing their membership and paying before 1st March (UK and Europe) or 1st April (world-wide). New members will receive all backcopies of the Newsletter for the current year in which they join.

Prospective members are requested to pay subscriptions in pounds sterling, either by cheque drawn in sterling on a UK bank, or payable in sterling. Cash in sterling or US bills is accepted but should be sent preferably by registered post. If this is not possible a sum equivalent to Gb£7.00 (US $10.00) must be added to remittances in any other currency or non sterling cheques to cover U.K. bank charges.

Cheques should be made payable to: The Forces Postal History Society.

Please complete the Application Form and send it, together with your remittance, to the Membership Secretary.
